The failure of bolted flanged joints in industrial plants must be prevented in case of a fire. Although the thermal loads in such a case of damage are many times higher than those occurring during operation, it has to be ensured that the permissible leakage rates of flange connections and fittings are not exceeded until the situation is brought under control by firefighters.
Standards of the American Petrolium Institute (API) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regulate these demands.
The TEMESfire.safe test bench was developed to examine flange connections and fittings for fire safety. For this purpose, individual test sequences can be defined by user, or tests according to EN ISO 10497, API 607, API 6FA, API 6FB or API 589 can be carried out. The focus of these investigations is on recording the external and internal leakage rates.
